Rasing awareness of the gift of organ or blod donation
The Immortal Gift – Amardaan
About The Project..
The NHSBT funded, Rangoli Radio’s special project is about raising awareness on Blood and Organ Donation. In South Asian Communities, we have very low number of people who donate blood and organs. This Project brings special broadcasts with donors, recipients and NHS Specialists who are sharing valuable experiences and real life stories about donating blood and organ transplant.
What have we been doing?
Community Outreach
1. Yorkshire Sculpture Park in May 2022 – Amardaan Project was officially launched and introduced to the community at Yorkshire Sculpture Park at an Away Day for Rangoli Radio. It was attended by approximately 30 people. We had a great conversation about it and how we could contribute to the community through the awareness.
2. Roundhay Park – 100 Years of Roundhay Park Event in July 2022 - Very Positive conversations were held with a number of community members, Lord Mayor of Leeds about Blood and Organ Donation. We shared resources such flyers from NHSBT and created our own poster to raise awareness and importance of talking to your family if you are thinking of Organ Donation.
3. We also attended British Transplant Games in July and interviewed a number of participants who have received a transplant or donated organs. We talked about how it changed their lives, what was the impact on the family and how they have benefitted from it. We created a radio program from these interviews which was also broadcasted in August 2022.
4. We joined JHOD (Jain and Hindu Organ Donation Team) in Leeds Hindu Temple and spoke to community members about coming forward and encouraging them to register for organ donation.
Awareness Raising Event 13th August 2022
A half day event on raising awareness on Blood and Organ Donation as well as celebrating India’s Independence day and 1st Anniversary of Rangoli Radio at a beautiful and iconic venue, Bradford Hindu Temple (that was first inaugurated by HM, Queen Elizabeth II) was held. Around 100 people registered (through Eventbrite) and attended the event on 13th August 2022. We welcomed NHSBT Ambassadors Karen Piotr, Aky Suryavanshi and Tina Suryavanshi who shared their stories and experiences with the attendees. They also shared the importance of Blood and Organ Transplant, the significance of speaking to their families, how they can register, the process and myth bursters. Our Moderator gathered questions from the audience and asked the Temple Priest from the Hindu perspective and how we can encourage it.
