Memories are created in each waking moment and stored from birth till death by every human. Some memories remain more prominent than others when they are associated with strong emotions; memories can be about taste, smell, events, sounds, sight , touch etc.; they can be happy or sad memories. It is these memories that, at times, pop-up spontaneously and can also be recalled at will : we are all familiar with recalling what we did to celebrate birthdays or attending a funeral whilst not having a clue as to what we did on the day before!
In our world of a few billion people, all of whom have memories, only a few become famous/celebrities and then their memories are widely shared and appreciated by many; the already famous people gain additional familiarity, fame and adulation by the common man.
I believe that even the ‘Common Man’ has memories which are both unique and emotionally laden and at times pushed back in the recesses of our mind. We remain unfamiliar with the memoirs of those close to us and in our friend circle- the memories important to the common man are rarely explored ; think of how many of us are familiar with the childhood memories of our own parents !
To celebrate memories of the common man and people who surround us : our relatives, friends and acquaintances, neighbours - in fact every person around us, the programme Yadon ka Museum/यादों का म्युज़ियम [ the Museum of Memories ] has been created.
A guest from our society will be invited every fortnight to share her/his/their memories, they will then choose two of their memories to display in a special cabinet in the Museum. They will be given the opportunity to choose a new experience which will then become a new memory for them.
All listeners from anywhere in the world can choose to participate by writing to the programme.
It is hoped that the programme will inspire and prompt all listeners to discuss memories with their family members and friends and thus recognise the ‘celebrities’ that we all are. After all, what are we without our memories.
